◎ Introduction
The organizers of Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF) are honored to invite you to take part in the third CCBF Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition.

For this new edition, the Golden Pinwheel Awards are featuring a series of changes designed to make the programme more inclusive, representative and helpful to the young artist community. Emerging artists need as many opportunities as possible to introduce themselves to the global publishing community and to other industries that rely on their creativity and skills to flourish. This year, artworks will be submitted online and will be showcased in the virtual gallery available on a brand new official website that you can visit at

Also, we are glad to announce that The Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition has gained supporters around the world. Several institutions, have agreed to support the competition, guaranteeing therefore that a vast number of illustrators from distinctive cultural backgrounds can be represented in our Shanghai event. This year, leewiART has launched a strategic partnership with CCBF to provide a better competitive experience to all the participants.

An international jury of recognised professionals will select the best works and a great showcase of the 50 finalists’ art will be held at Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (17-19th November 2017 ). A catalogue and virtual gallery will give continuity to this exhibition and many other special rewards will make this programme as attractive and entertaining as always.

◎ Competition Regulations
1. What Can be Entered
The entrants must send five original illustrations belonging to the same series (fixed number, min definition 300 dpi), unpublished or published, created after January 1st, 2015. The entered artworks should be suitable to be published in picture books for young readers. There are no specific restrictions regarding the topic of the series or the techniques used to complete the artwork. Artwork previously submitted to the Competition may not be re-entered.

2. Who Can Take Part
Artists from all nationalities aged 18 to 40 years old (born prior to 31st December 1999 and after 1st January 1977) are eligible to take part in the Competition.
Entrants shall be collective or individual artists, entering their work either personally or through their school, agency, publishing house or art association.

3. Submission deadline
The deadline to complete the submission procedure is set to 31 August 2017 (23:59 GMT+8 Beijing time)

4. Submission Procedure
Entries must be entered in digital format and submitted online following the procedure stated on the competition’s official website HD scan copies shall be submitted for any hand-drawing works. No original artwork sent by mail will be considered for the Competition, neither will they be returned to their sender.

The illustrations must meet the following criteria:
Format: Digital artwork in jpg or jpeg
format Size: max 10M per file
Definition: min 300 dpi
If the submitted works have appeared in a publication, the entrant shall communicate the ISBN number, publishers’ name and date of publication.

5. Judging process and results announcements
All entries complying with the eligibility criteria will be reviewed by jury of international illustrators, publishers and picture book specialists, whose decision will be definitive.
The evaluation process will be held according to the following calendar.
Call for entry: 1 May 2017 - 31 August 2017
First round of evaluation: September
Second round of evaluation: First half of October Finalists announcement: mid-October
Winners announcement: 17 November 2017 at CCBF opening ceremony

6. Awards
6.1 Recognition to the finalists:
- The 50 finalists’ artworks will be presented at the Golden Pinwheel illustration show-case during CCBF 2017.
- All the finalists will receive an official diploma from organizers which could be downloaded from the website.
- Artworks will be presented in the 2017 Golden Pinwheel Artwork Catalogue.
-All the finalists will be granted free access to the workshops and illustration relatedevents held during the book fair.

6.2 Golden Pinwheel Grand Prix – Two 10,000 RMB cash prizes
The Golden Pinwheel Grand Prix to the Best Illustrator is a double-recognition given simultaneously to a Chinese and a foreign artist selected by the Golden Pinwheel Jury among the finalists. Each Grand Prix consists of a 10,000 RMB cash prize and the opportunity to hold a joint exhibition at CCBF 2018.

6.3 Publisher’s Choice Award
The Publisher’s Choice Award will be assigned by a jury of experts from a domestic children's book publishing house among the finalists. The Publisher’s Award laureate is offered a contract to illustrate a children‘s book at a domestic children's book publishing house. The book will be presented at a following edition of Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair and a special exhibition organized to highlight the work of the winning artist.

6.4 People’s Choice Award
The People’s Choice Award is an open prize that allow CCBF followers and visitors to select their favourite artist among the competiton’s 50 finalists. The vote will start online after the finalist shortlist has been release (mid October 2017), and will continue until the end of CCBF 2017. Onsite vote will also be available to all CCBF visitors and exhibitors starting from 17 November, The results will be released in the night on November 19. The laureate’s art will be invited to design CCBF official image and poster for the following year.
◎ Copyright
The entrant represents and warrants that (i) the submitted artwork is an original work created solely by the entrant and (ii) they own all copyrights related to the submitted artworks. The entrant shall assume all responsibilities and liabilities for any copyright disputes incurred by the submitted artwork, and the entrant shall indemnify the organizing committee against any loss caused by any relevant copyright dispute. The organizer has all discretion to decide whether a submitted artwork should be selected for exhibition, awarded, or cancelled for exhibition.
The entrant acknowledges and agrees that the organizer may print, reproduce (electronic reproduction included) and exhibit the submitted artwork for non-lucrative purposes. The organizers may use the submitted artwork and associated information for public exhibitions, printing, production, marketing and promotion.
The entrant recognizes the right of the organizers to exhibit their work in other showcases organized or co-organized by CCBF in any other city in China or abroad. In any case, the organizers commit to inform the entrants of the details of the exhibition prior to the opening.
