Jury announced for The Golden Pinwheel International Young Illustrators Competition

2017 The third edition of Golden Pinwheel International Young Illustrator s Competition called for entries since 1st May, received a total of 3655 illustrations from 37 countries & regions. After the first round of the selection process, eventually there will be 50 finalists to be part of the final round of judging. Their art works will be exhibited during the Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (17-19 November 2017, Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Center). 

 

 

 The jury members of the contest are composed of picture book experts from publishers, colleges, libraries, as well as well-known illustrators at home and abroad. They are: 

 
 

JIU ER

 

 
 
JIU ER, born in the northeast China and now living in Beijing. Illustrator、picture book author and sculpture. She had been engaged in sculpture design for many years and had participated in many international sculpture invitational exhibitions. In 2012, she began to concentrate on children's picture book creation.

Monster Hill, Don't jump rope with frogs(working with writer Peng Yi)
"Hometown•Encounter-- Jiu Er's original painting exhibition was held in the Capital Museum in July 2015.

CHRIS HAUGHTON

 

 
Chris Haughton is an Irish illustrator and author living in London. He was listed in Time magazine's 'DESIGN 100' for the work he has been doing for fair trade clothing company People Tree. His debut book 'A Bit Lost' was first published in English in September 2010. It has been translated into 22 languages and won 10 awards in 8 countries. In the UK it won Gold at the AOI 'Best of British Illustration Awards 2010'. In Ireland it won the Bisto Children's book of the year and the Eilís Dillon Award for Best Debut Book. In Holland it won the Dutch Picture Book of the Year 2012. In the US it won the Marion Vannette Ridgway award. 'Oh No George' came out in March 2012 and has been nominated for 5 awards in 4 countries including the Greenaway Medal and the Roald Dahl Funny award. ‘SHH! We have a plan’ came out in March 2014 and won the UK Association of Illustrators Award for best childrens book. Goodnight Everyone published in 2016. His iOS app, HATMONKEY came out in 2014 and virtual reality experience LITTLE EARTH launched in August 2017. Chris has also created a social business, madebynode.com to connect design and fair trade and make rugs and toys.
 
In 2011, together with Akshay Sthapit he has co-founded a fair trade company in Nepal called 'Node'. It operates as a non profit and aims to connect the worlds best designers with fair trade organisations to produce high quality designed products while empowering co-operatives and the economically disadvantaged. For their first exhibition they asked 18 artists to each design a rug, well known artists such as Jon Klassen, Beatrice Alemagna, Geoff McFetridge and Donna Wilson, each had a 2m sq rug made and displayed at the Design Museum in London. They are currently being sold online and through the Design Museum Shop.
 
 
 
 

FEI JIA

 

Fei Jia is a senior editor at the Juvenile and Children's Publishing House
Fei Jia has dealt with the planning, drafting, and illustration of juvenile and children's books for a long time. He edited and directed "Sanmao's Big World" which was awarded the China Book Prize and he received a Bing Xin Children's Book Award for "Animal Mobilization". In a career that spans close to 30 years, he has designed many children's books such as "Five Thousand Years of a Chinese Nation" and "I Wonder Why". He has also contributed design and layout services to literary, artistic, and popular science books for children across China. In his time spent editing and producing these books, he has maintained a commitment to his research in picture book illustrations and has helped to groom and support a team of influential authors.
 
 
 

YAN XIAOLI

 

 
Yan Xiaoli, founder and chief editor of Beijing Dandelion Children's Book House, the 2014 Phoenix Media•China's Good Editor. She introduced, edited and published many best-selling children's books, such as "Magic School Bus" series, "Mapy ", " Where the Wild Things Are ", "Honey Millet" series and so on. Books her edited successively won the " National Book Award nomination Award", "Sichuan Province Five Project Award", "Guizhou Province Five Project Award ", " China Outstanding Children's book First Prize", "Bing Xin Children's Book Award", "China Best Seller Award" and so on.
 
 

MISHA BLAISE

 

 
Misha Maynerick Blaise is a Croatian American, born in Canada, and raised in the Colorado Rockies. She has designed art for many major brands including Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, West Elm, CB2, Oopsy Daisy, and the New York Times Style Magazine. She and her husband are the co-owners of a green building company, and co-creators of two sons. They now call Austin, Texas home.
 
Misha has always harbored a deep appreciation for the wonders of the universe, and is curious about the ways seemingly disparate elements interconnect. She believes that art can open doors of creativity and freedom in a world that can sometimes seem oppressively limited.
 
After completing a degree in Middle Eastern studies and working for years as a youth worker in Chicago, Misha started to carve her path as an artist. After a lot of rejection and a lot of hustle, she found her visual voice and has been able to collaborate with many outstanding brands.
 
Misha likes night swimming, music, researching stuff, and discussing life's big questions over a strong cup of black tea. She is the author and illustrator of two books: This Phenomenal Life: The Amazing Ways We Are Connected with Our Universe, and also: This is Texas, Y'all! The Lone Star State From A to Z.
 
 
 

ZHUANG WEIJIA

 
 
 
Zhuang Weijia, graduated from Sichuan Fine Art Institute, an associate professor of Beihang university New Media Art & Design School, and visiting scholar to the University of Tennessee.
 
Research area:
Contemporary Art and cross media narrative / illustration and picture book creation.
Personal exhibition in the United States, domestic and international art group exhibition for over 20 times
 
Information related to Picture book:
Planned and organized picture book-related lectures of by myself or in cooperation with many units , Invited speakers like Anthony Brown, Croatia children's book publisher and author Andrea couple, Czech illustrator Renata Fucikova , The French author AndrDahan,the famous Japanese author Susumu Shingu, and other world famous authors.
Served as the judge for many national picture and comic books contests: the first Zhang Leping Picture Book Award, Chinese Children's Book Fair (Beijing), preliminary and final judge for CCBF “Chinese Best Children’s book list”, Youth China-Contest of Cultural Works for the Children.

WANG ZHIGENG

 
 
 
Wang Zhigeng, a senior  librarian, head for the Reading Service at  National Library of China, director of the Children's Library of the NLC,  deputy director of Children's Libraries Society. For the last 21 years, Mr. Wang has been working on the management of public library, and on the research of publishing and reading promotion. He is devoted to the reading service for children,  and reviewing  and translation of children's books.
